JiJ - Days 99-104 - Blasting through Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala: Traversing Central America

In Nicaragua:
  • Spent the day in Granada.  Lovely colonial city.  Camped in the Red Cross parking.
  • Left late afternoon planning to camp near the Honduran border.
  • Arrived at the border (Aduana del Guasaule)...no clear place to camp, decided to motor on.

In Honduras:

  • Drove through Honduras, in the dark, in a matter of hours, escorted by a friendly gasoline tanker driver who befriended us who said, "it's not safe, stay with me."  OK.

In El Salvador:

  • Crossed the border very late at night at Aduana de El Amatillo...only one crazy screamer.
  • Slept in the customs lot for impounded vehicles on the El Salvador side.
  • Woke the next morning and drove the coast route along amazing cliffs and azure water.
  • Crossed the border into Guatemala at Migration El Salvador Border Hachadura.

In Guatemaula:

  • Motored across the coastal plain of Guatemaula in a rainstorm.
  • Experienced frequent, scary shut-off issues (poor ignition switch).
  • Climbed up and over between Volcán Acatenango and Volcán de Agua into Antigua.
  • Parked and camped in the Turista Police Car Park.
  • Explored colonial radness for a few days.  Folk life. Replaced plugs, fuel lines, filter, etc.
  • Continued along the coastal plain, crossing into Mexico at Aduana El Carmen
